The angel of the Lord got right to the heart of the matter and blew off Gideon’s excuses with the words. “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor… and you shall not die.” Gideon had an image of himself that was way different than the one God had of him; and so does the modern day Christian. Gideon saw himself as weak, fearful, and unable to do what the Lord was commanding him to do; and so does the people of the modern day church. God has assured us, “If I be for you, who can be against you.” The angel of the Lord said to Gideon, “I will be with you.” God has assured us, ” I will never leave you or forsake you.” Gideon made excuses, “My clan is the weakest in Israel… and this problem is all God’s fault. (My interpretation) “But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites” and the list of excuses men try to use on the Lord is never ending. The angel of the Lord wasn’t interested in hearing Gideon’s excuses anymore than He is interested in hearing ours. The angel commanded Gideon to go into action and promised him; “You shall not die.” And the Lord has commanded us who make up the modern day church to do the same with this statement; “All power is given unto me in heaven and on earth… Go! Into all the world and preach the gospel to every nation and peoples under heaven …and I will be with you even unto the end of the age.” (Jesus made this last statement to His disciples just before He ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives. And with this statement He transferred the power He had received to the New Testament church.) DThrash
