God’s Mile Markers
We know how close we are getting to a city by the number of signs along the way. These signs are designed to tell us “You are this close to reaching your destination.” Since all of us who travel our nations interstate system realize this truth; I wonder how many people know God has given us a number of signs to tell us how close we are to reaching our eternal destination; the end of time. As we know, the signs announcing the distance to our city are few and far between when we begin our journey, but the closer we get to our destination, the more numerous the signs become. These signs are organized in this manner for two reasons. One, the people who placed them in those locations do not want us to lose our way, and two, so we don’t lose hope of ever reaching our destination. I personally think this was very thoughtful of them. What do you think? Helpful, or not helpful? Depending upon our understanding of highway signs this might help us to understand why God gave us signs to help us understand where we are in the history of man. Years ago when the church began its journey on the Day of Pentecost there were few signs to tell His disciples how far they had to go. But, they were still curious, so they asked Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to tell them about God’s plan. We are now two thousand years into our journey and the signs are rapidly increasing in frequency and number. If we are ignoring His signs, that doesn’t mean they are not there for our viewing. Hopefully, we are paying attention because that time is not all that far off. Now let’s look at the signs Jesus said would appear that would tell us how far we are from our destination.
Matthew chapter 24. (These events will take place prior to the Rapture of God’s Church)
Verse 5. Many will come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, (or, saying, follow me and I know the way to heaven.) and will deceive many.
Verse 6. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled. For all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Verse 7. For nation will rise against nation, (earthly countries) and kingdom against kingdom. (God’s church which represents the kingdom of heaven on earth against Satan and his followers, peoples, countries etc.)
(B) And there will be famines, and earthquakes in various places. (In the history of mankind there has never been a time when as many castrophies of such catastrophic measure and frequency have taken place as they are at the present time. And they will continue to increase in frequency and magnitude as the days pass. The amount of destruction caused by these castrophies will far exceed man’s ability to rebuild and recover from them.)
Verse 8. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Verse 9. Then they (the anti-Godly) will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you.
(B) You will be hated by all nations (people’s) for my name’s sake.
Verse 10. And many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
Verse 11. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
Verse 12. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many (church members) will grow cold.
Verse 13. But he who endures (or, stays the course) to the end shall be saved.
Verse 14. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, then the end will come. (The battle lines are being drawn as man under the unction of Satan is attempting to push God out of His creation; and what we are witnessing in ever increasing frequency is God starting to push back using the things Jesus listed above to gain the attention of man and to show them that he controls nothing.)
Now let’s continue on to phase two of God’s warning signs. These have not yet happened, but are going to happen during the seven year tribulation period in which God pours out the fullness of His anger on ungrateful man. (And I might add this time is fast approaching.)
You don’t want to be on earth to experience what is going to happen in Verses 15-28
Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation’ (the anti-christ) spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place. (In the holy of holies in God’s temple in Jerusalem which is not yet built, but will be either before the tribulation period begins or within the first three years of that period.) then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. (Get as far away from this dude as you can.) Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. Then if anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Christ! Or there! Do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, Look, He is in the desert! do not go out; or Look, He is in the inner rooms! do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes in the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
Notice the last statement in this passage: For where the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. What do you think that means? It means there is going to be a lot of death and destruction, but it isn’t going to be God’s people dying this time. It is going to be the rebellious, lawless, and ungrateful ones. Not just one or two, but by the untold millions. God tells us, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay saith the Lord.” The wheels of justice turn slowly in heaven because God is merciful to the sinner. But in the statement, “Where the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together;” His vengeance has caught up to the men who have dishonored Him, His Son, and His people.
And lastly, Jesus tells us what is going to happen after God’s anger has cooled down somewhat.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light: the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
These are the events Jesus told His disciples were going to happen during the church age. He has told us what is presently happening, what will happen during the tribulation period, and what the future of man is to be. In these last passages of scripture notice that Jesus said the sun, moon and stars would not be giving off light anymore. Why do you think that is? Well, let’s look at verse 30 again, Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven… and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. The great glory Jesus is talking about is the light of His glory, the one who was crucified by wicked men. The first time He came almost everyone missed it, but this time no living person is going to miss His coming, and everyone will feel His impact. He was a nursing baby who came to die by the hands of wicked men for the sins of the world, but now He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, the King of Glory who is coming to slay the wicked.
Jesus described His second coming this way; “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes in the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” We read in the previous verses where the sun, moon, and stars, would not be giving off their light. According to that verse it will be pitch black when Christ Jesus splits the eastern sky, and as we know, east never meets west. If you travel westward there is no point in your journey where you begin going eastward again, so every person living on the earth will not miss His second coming. And they will not be happy to see His appearing. Have a Blessed and Wonderful Day in the Lord. DThrash.
