The Slain Of The Lord Shall Be Many
I was reading chapter sixty-six the closing chapter of the book by Isaiah the prophet in which God tells Isaiah what is going to take place in the latter days and gave us this description. Isaiah 66:12-16 “For thus says the Lord. “Behold, I will extend peace to her (referring to Jerusalem) like a river. And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you (the Israelites and the obedient Gentiles) shall feed; on her sides shall you be carried, (like a mother carries her child on her hip) and be dandled on her knees. As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass; the hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants, and His indignation to His enemies. For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and to rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by His sword the Lord will judge all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall be many.” In these four verses of scripture in Isaiah sixty-six, the Lord has described for us what will be great joy for those who love the Lord. In His description He uses the symbolism of a child being comforted and consoled to quiet its fears while being carried on the mother’s hip, and of joy that comes from being bounced on her knee; while describing the great and terrible punishment that will come upon the unbelieving peoples of this world.
Isaiah is the same prophet that gave us an accurate description of the life, purpose, ministry, and death of our Lord Jesus Christ hundreds of years before the events took place. (Isaiah 9:6-7 & Isaiah chapter 53) Not only did Isaiah tell us a Savior was coming into the world; he also told us of a man named Cyrus who would conquer the Babylonian Empire. (Isaiah chapter 45) Again, hundreds of years before the event took place. It was the prophet Daniel who pointed out this fact to Cyrus, that caused Cyrus to have mercy upon the Jews. If Isaiah was accurate about those accounts, and he was; then men ought to give heed to what he wrote of the coming judgment in the closing chapter of the book named after him. Just as surely as Jesus came into the world and fulfilled Isaiah’s prophesy concerning the salvation offered to mankind; the punishment coming upon the peoples of the world for their rebellion will come as well and happen just as Isaiah described. You hear a lot about the prophesies of Nostradamus as though his words were bible. He was not a prophet of God, nor was his prophesies from God. The prophesies of Nostradamus are so general in nature they could mean anything or apply to many things. God has told us we are to judge prophets to see whether they are true or false. If every prophesy they told comes to pass; that prophet is of God. If they don’t happen just as prophesied, they are not of God. Only God knows what is going to happen and when, and He does nothing without letting His children know in advance. The devil who imitates God doesn’t have a clue, but he tells people what they want to hear. He is a liar, and like a liar some of his lies bear a close resemblance to the truth; but that is where the resembalance ends. With a little investigation we will soon discover the falacy of the lie, whereas the truth will withstand the greatest scrutiny as well as the test of time.
Even though Isaiah has told us what is about to take place upon the earth; it is not too late for the unbelieving public to start believing and avoid the coming punishment. After all, the reason Jesus came was to give sinners an opportunity to repent of their sins and turn their hearts back to the Lord whom Isaiah told us is the Judge and the Executioner. To the faithful God has promised great joy; but to the unfaithful He has promised ‘fire and a sword’. Verse 16 tells us, “The Lord will judge all flesh; (the saved and the unsaved) and the slain of the Lord shall be many.” Even if I wasn’t a child of God, but someone told me about what He is getting ready to do along with the evidence to prove it; I would definitely give this news some serious thought. If we don’t act while we have the time and the opportunity, then we deserve everything that happens to us. DThrash
