Hell, The Prison for Fools

Isaiah writes in chapter three beginning in verse thirteen; “The Lord stands up to plead, and stands to judge the people. The Lord will enter into judgment with the elders of His people and His princes: “For you have eaten up the vineyard; (the labors of your people) the plunder of the poor (the poor man’s would be wealth) is in your houses. What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” Says the Lord God of Hosts.

The Lord God of Hosts had a problem with the elders and princes of His people who had abused His children and used the fruits of their labors to live in luxury. God asked the elders and the princes this question. “What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” The words ‘crushing my people’ and ‘grinding the faces of the poor” is the same in whatever language they are written. These poor people were being grossly mistreated by their leaders. The bible tells us, “God is a jealous God.” He is jealous for His children and how they are treated by their leaders. Are we not the same? If someone is trying to harm or abuse our children, are we not going to be asking them, “Why?” God does not differ from us in that respect; and our present day leaders live in luxury at the working man’s expense while the rest of the country is spiralling downward. These thieves who are squandering our wealth will one day be asked the same question God is asking the elders and princes of that day. “Why did you live in luxury while crushing the hopes and dreams of my children?” I wonder what their answer will be? Few leaders take office with the intentions of becoming evil, but they become corrupted when they see the greatness of the bounty before them. The people who strive to become powerful do so not realizing the hardest thing in life for man to control when he is surrounded by wealth and opportunity is to remain humble and honest before his fellow-man. God has always had a problem with people who have no self-control, who yield to their temptation, and abuse their position of trust simply because they can.

Let’s pick up the story in verse thirteen of chapter five with the words; “Therefore my people have gone (all the people went) into captivity, because they have no knowledge; (the working man didn’t understand how much had been stolen from them by the elders and princes of the people) their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” In the end, the wealth that once made the children of the Lord of Host a great people was depleted, and the Lord’s children suffered extensively from the theft. Now hear the announcement of God’s charges against the transgressors beginning in verse eighteen; “Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as if with a cart rope; that (the leaders) say, “Let Him (The Lord of Host, the owner of the vineyard) make speed and hasten His work, that we may see it: And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it.” (God said in response to the fool’s statement) Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Doesn’t this brief description fit the life of the working man in America today whose life is being turned upside down by wicked men and women with sin filled hearts who live in the lap of luxury at the expense of the common man? Men and women who are willing to lie, cheat, steal, and do whatever is necessary to maintain their hold on the purse strings of the working man. We learn from Isaiah’s writings that people were just as dumb and blind back then as they are today. Stupid men speaking stupid words, denying the existence of the Lord of Hosts, while poking fun at Him by saying such dumb things as, “Where are you, O mighty God? Why do you delay your coming? If you are real, come! Let us see your work and we will believe you.” No, you won’t, stupid one! He already came and men just like you killed Him.” The people of that day didn’t recognize Him, and you wouldn’t recognize Him either; even if He came wearing a sign. The only reason you make such dumb statements is to impress the fools who follow you. Not understanding that the leader of a fool is a fool himself. Read and see what is awaiting you on the other side of deaths door. Verse fourteen; “Therefore Sheol (Hell, the Prison for Fools) has enlarged itself and opened its mouth beyond measure; their glory (the glory of the pompous fool) and their multitude (of friends and associates) and their pomp, (vanity) and he who is jubilant, (extremely satisfied with himself and his evil deeds) shall descend into it. People shall be brought down, (like a prisoner in handcuffs being escorted to the death chamber) each man shall be humbled, (shall know the truth of his folly) and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled. (opened to the reality that he is guilty as charged and has no defense with which to defend his actions) But the Lord of Hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness. Then the lambs (the abused people of God) shall feed in their pasture, and in the waste places of the fat ones (the waste places is speaking of the property of those pompous fools who lived a life of luxury at the expense of their people and who now fill hell’s hungry belly) strangers shall eat.” You pompous fools! You trade your eternal future for a handful of temporary pleasures; you crush the hopes and dreams of your people and rub their faces in it, not understanding you are in line to have your hopes and dreams smashed permanently and crushed forever in a place from which you cannot escape. Not so though for the people you crushed. God has promised He will restore all that you stole from them. He will give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for the spirit of mourning. Their day is coming, the Son is rising with healings in His wings; but you will pass away into oblivion with all the rest of the fools who followed you in your folly, and your name will be blotted out of the memory of mankind forever. [Isaiah 61:1-4] DThrash
