Defiling a Thing of Beauty

Are you speaking life to your life, or death to your life? What do you mean, “Am I speaking life or death to my life?” Of course I’m speaking life to my life, only a fool wants to die. Are you really? Let’s see if you are. Solomon taught, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Those that love it shall eat the fruit of it.” Presently you are eating the fruit of what you have been speaking over your life. Solomon tells us we control the two most mysterious aspects of life with our tongue, and he continued by saying, we shall eat the fruit of life or the fruit of death according to what we say. It’s amazing, isn’t it? And Jesus said, “It isn’t what goes into your mouth that defiles the person, it’s what comes out of your mouth.” It’s important people understand we are like God in that we have the power to create using the words we speak. Really, I didn’t know that. For instance, you didn’t get your spouse, girl friend or boy friend, without talking to them. One day you made the decision you couldn’t live without them; then you began speaking words of love to capture their heart. Do you understand? The words of love you spoke to them created a vision in their heart that they couldn’t live without you either. You created a long-term relationship using the creative power of words. And by your words you also get a divorce, separation, or destroy a relationship. If you have understood what I have said so far, it will be easier to understand this next statement. The words you speak are either adding to your life or they are killing you a little bit at a time. And at the present time, your life is the sum total of the words you have spoken over it. So what have you been speaking? Jesus said the following things are destroying your life, “For those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, (the heart is referring to the spirit of man) and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man…” (Matthew 15: 10, 11, 18-20) By now you can probably guess that the good things that adds life to our life come from the same place as the ones that are destroying our life.

The word ‘defile’ Jesus used in the above scripture means to take a perfectly good thing and purposefully mar it or destroy it so it decreases in value. Defiling a thing is a blatant attempt to destroy a thing of beauty. And when a person purposefully defiles something that doesn’t belong to them, they are committing a crime. Here is another thought that very seldom enters the mind of man. We think we own the rights to our life, but we don’t. God redeemed the rights to the life of man when He gave the life of His Son for us. Therefore we are the property of God, and when we defile that which belongs to someone else, we are guilty of committing a crime. People argue, especially in the case of abortion, “I can do what I want with my body, it belongs to me.” No it doesn’t, and when you kill or destroy the life of that innocent baby inside you, you become a criminal and will be judged as a murderer.

So let me ask the question again, “What have you been speaking and what have you been doing to build up or to destroy your life?” Are your words – words of life, or words of death? Jesus made it pretty clear, “If you are not speaking words of life over your life, you are defiling your life.” If you are guilty of defiling your life, you can change your life by changing the words you speak over it. But that isn’t as easy as it sounds. And you have to be able to control your tongue and that is no easy chore either. God has to regenerate our old spirit and give it new life and we have to renew the way we think before we are able to control our tongue. James the half-brother of Jesus said, “The tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.” If you have sought forgiveness for allowing your tongue to defile your life, your spirit has been made alive by the Spirit of God, or born again as some people call it; and you should be speaking life to your life just as Jesus spoke life to the hurting people who came to Him for help. Or does that spirit in you speak and do the things Jesus listed above that defiles the person? If you are defiling yourself, you are speaking death to your life and God will hold you accountable for destroying something that doesn’t belong to you. If you need help to stop destroying your life, use that world of iniquity James called your tongue and seek God’s forgiveness, and He will give you new life and the power to speak words of life over your life. If you don’t seek His help, you will keep speaking death over your life and it will eventually destroy your physical body and remove your chance for eternal life. DThrash
