Who is My Neighbor?

A lawyer came to Jesus one day and asked Him, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Isn’t this the question each of us should be asking ourselves? We are eternal beings living in an eternal kingdom and will spend eternity somewhere, but where? Only we can answer that question and our eternal destiny depends upon each of us coming to the right conclusion.

Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” The lawyer said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” And Jesus said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

It would suffice us to know that the lawyer knew a great deal more about how to receive eternal life than people do today, but his understanding of the requirements wasn’t any greater than those who don’t know that God has requirements men must meet to inherit eternal life. He could quote the word of God just as we have preachers today who can quote it, but the fruit of understanding is seen in a persons actions. No understanding, no action, no fruit. And people who lack understanding do stupid things in the name of justice. It was people like this lawyer who crucified the Lord of glory, and it is people today writing laws to restrict religious freedoms. The Jews lost their beloved temple and their homeland for 2,000 years. What will America lose because it lacks understanding of even the most basic requirements of God’s Word? Thus they are writing and passing laws that are supposedly in the best interest of the general populace, but in reality are doing more damage to our country than good.

They can commit reams of information to memory, but none of that information helps them because it never reaches the place of understanding. They have been blessed with a great deal of intelligence, but they are not smart enough to realize that one day they will have to give an accounting to their Creator because they failed to understand ‘who their neighbors are; and helped Satan harm God’s prized creatures. Matthew 25:41-46  DThrash
