Somebody Touched Me

In Luke 8:46 Jesus said, “Somebody touched me, for I perceive power going out of me.” I have hinted at this next statement in another blog entry that when someone comes into contact with Jesus, who is the Word of God in the flesh, the power contained in the Word knows it has been touched by faith and the persons needs are met. This is proven in almost every miracle Jesus did while on earth.

In this story a woman with an issue of blood that would not stop flowing determined in her heart she was going to make contact with Jesus. She came up behind Him in the crowd and touched the hem of His garment and immediately her flow of blood stopped. Jesus knew this was no ordinary touch because He felt power leave Him. And He said to those around Him, “Who touched me?” The woman did not immediately confess up because she was fearful of what might happen to her if she did. It was against Jewish law for anyone bleeding to be close to people because they were considered to be unclean. Thus she had broken the law when she entered the crowd of people around Jesus to touch Him. This was a punishable offense. But when she saw her act was not hidden from Jesus, she confessed to Him she had been the one who touched Him. To her surprise, Jesus didn’t call for the religious police to come an arrest her. Instead, He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” Can’t you just see this lady breathing a sigh of relief because she wasn’t going to be arrested for exercising her faith, but would be allowed to, “Go in peace,” by the One she had touched.

The Word of God when touched by faith responds accordingly. As the disciples of Jesus said to him, “Master, the multitude throng and press you, and you say, “Who touched Me?” A lot of people had touched Jesus that day, but her touch was different from all the others because she had touched Him expecting to receive something from Him! And how wise we would be if we determined in our heart that when a need arises for which we don’t have answers we were going to the Word of God expecting favorable results just like this lady did. She got her healing because she expected to be healed, and I believe we will too based upon Hebrews 13:8 in which we are told, “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.” In other words, The Word of God that came into the world clothed in a fleshly body and given the name of Jesus is forever the same to all people. If you want to receive; you gotta believe, but if you want to be laid out; just continue to doubt.

Faith in the Word of God worked for this lady, it has worked for other people, and it will work for you, if you do what this lady and the other people did before you. Believe and receive; God is not a respecter of persons. (Acts 10:34)
