Listen To Me
The Book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom for those persons seeking wisdom. We know that not everyone desires to be wise, but for those who do, enjoy the writings of the men who put pen to paper to share their wealth of wisdom with us that we might learn from them.
King Solomon, the third king of Israel wrote many of the proverbs in the bible. When he became king at a young age he asked God to give him the wisdom he would need to rule God’s people, and God gave him wisdom. He also put down on paper the wisdom he gained and the mistakes he made. This short message I write today was taken from Proverbs 1:33 in which Solomon wrote of wisdom, “Whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure without fear of evil.” Solomon said we are to listen to wisdom if we want to dwell safely and secure without fear of evil. Sadly there are a lot of people in the world today who listen but don’t hear; and have eyes that see but are blind. Sadly enough many of these people hold important elected offices and are making the decisions that affect the entire population of this country.
For a person to become a wise man, they must know what wisdom is and where it can be found. Libraries are full of books on many subjects but that does not mean wisdom lives there. Libraries are full of knowledge from floor to ceiling, but knowledge alone does not constitute wisdom. And as we are witnessing today; we know there is a difference between possessing intelligence and knowing how to use that intelligence wisely. The difference between the two is shaping the world we live in. The world is full of knowledgeable people, but short on wise men and common sense. And when men rule who lack wisdom and common sense; evil is lurking at the door.
The newspaper moguls tell us, “Good news does not sell newspapers.” If good news did not sell; the bible would not be the number one best selling book, year in and year out. To me that means these bad news mouth-pieces of evil do not know what they are talking about, or they lie to make a profit off of the suffering of other people. Either way, the bad news they write glorifies the works of Satan and these purveyors of bad news will one day stand before the Judge of all mankind and tell Him why they chose to glorify the works of the evil one instead of Him.
For us to live safely and without fear we must live wisely according to the Word of God found in the sixty-six books of holy scriptures. If we live our lives according to the dictates of the scriptures, we will be wise and avoid the mistakes people make who live contrary to God’s Word. When Solomon said, “Listen to me if you want to live safely and securely without fear;” he was referring to living life the way God intended for us to live. Now that my friends is wisdom.
