Wayward Christians

There are many Christians in this world who are far more handicapped than the handicapped. The Christians I am talking about have ears that hear but do not hear, and eyes that see but do not see. Jesus had a name for these Christians; He called them wayward because they had normal functioning body parts, but were living way below the standard of life God gave them. Jesus said, “Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.” (Luke 8:12)

Remember in the previous verse Luke 8:11 Jesus is talking about the Word of God; and in verse 12 He is talking about those who followed Him who heard the Word of God and the devil came immediately and stole the word out of their hearts. Jesus referred to these Christians in verse 12 as being wayward followers in the sense they hear but do not hear. In essence He is saying, “They do not guard the Words they have heard, and the devil comes and steals the Word from them. When Wayward Christians do not set a guard on their heart to protect the words they hear; the devil can take them from them anytime he pleases. They do not seem to understand that by allowing the devil to steal the one thing that can set them free of the power of the adversary and break every bond holding them in their present situation, their life will never be anymore than one disappointment after another.”

Jesus asked a question in Luke 18:8“When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” That’s a good question don’t you think? It is a question only we ourselves can answer. Are we one of those who hear; but let the thief take God’s Word from us? Those who set a guard over the Word of God are those who are full of faith and are those whom the Lord is returning to take to heaven with Him. God isn’t looking for followers who will allow the thief to take from them everything He has given to them by way of His Word. Are you one of those wayward followers? Do you not care enough about your life that you let the devil rob you and you do nothing about it? If so, God can’t use you. God can’t use or trust wayward Christians to fulfill His mission on the earth of bringing the harvest of lost souls into His Kingdom. Those who hear and believe the Word of God and set a guard over His Word to prevent the enemy from stealing it; also “Believe that God is who He says He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6) DThrash
