Christian Hard-Heart

In keeping with our messages from the Parable of the Sower which began in Luke 8:11 Jesus said, “The seed is the Word of God” let us continue with verse 13. “But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.”

In this verse Jesus is talking about hard-hearted Christians of whom I call Christian Hard-Heart. Early in his walk with Christ; Christian Hard-Heart gets all excited about what God is doing; but since he is a very shallow Christian his heart quickly hardens to the point he can’t receive from God. And when temptation comes or he is attacked by the devil, he quickly surrenders; or as Jesus said, “He quickly falls away.” Christian Hard-Heart has a trust problem that even he can’t explain to you. For reasons unknown he will not allow the Word of God to deeply root itself in his heart. Not understanding that when a person keeps the Word of God locked out of their heart, they are keeping the evil in their heart locked in. It’s a no win situation for Christian Hard-Heart. God can’t help him because Christian Hard-Heart won’t let Him, and Satan has him right where he wants him. That follower will surrender to the devil as soon as the fight begins; but he will fight you for trying to help him. He will tell you God doesn’t love me. If He did He wouldn’t let me suffer this way. Never realizing the great joy the Word of God brought him when he was listening; or if he would submit to God He would melt that heart of stone and make him a giant of a man in God’s kingdom.

Our lack of understanding is directly related to having a hard heart. Do you find that you have a problem hearing and understanding God’s Word? If you do, you have a developing heart problem. In our physical body, hardening of the arteries is a serious heart problem in that it cuts off the flow of blood to the human heart and will eventually cause death if the problem is not corrected. Now think about this: Whatever we do not hear, we cannot understand, and we cannot have faith in anything we do not understand, which leads to refusing to act upon God’s Word which stops the flow of God’s blessings on our lives. If we are not being blessed by God it is because our heart is too hard to receive them. And even if we don’t understand God’s Word; we would be wise to act upon it anyway and God will honor His Word because it is His Word and our understanding of and our trust in God will then take root and grow.
