Do You Believe This?

People believe many things, but not many people really believe that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. If they did they would live their life differently. They wouldn’t be so quick to sin if they really understood they were going to see Jesus Christ again. Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” This statement by Jesus came near the tomb of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha. These two sisters and their brother Lazarus were personal friends of Jesus and He had spent many days at their house since they lived only a couple of miles from Jerusalem in a little town named Bethany.

While Jesus was in another part of Israel preaching the gospel, Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha became sick and died from his illness. When Jesus returned to Bethany, Martha went to Him and said to Him, “Lord, if you had been here Lazarus would not have died.” It’s true, if Jesus had been at their home Lazarus would not have died, but as Jesus pointed out to her, even though Lazarus was dead, he would rise again.” But Martha wanted to see Lazarus now… she didn’t want to wait until the resurrection to see him again and this led Jesus to explain to her in John 11:25-27, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” Martha believed Jesus was the Messiah, and like most of us she knew Jesus raised the dead, but she thought Jesus couldn’t do it this time because Lazarus had been dead and in the grave for four days. In her mind that was too long for a person to be dead and brought back to life. She did not understand that how long a person has been dead is unimportant. Jesus is the resurrection and the life, so it doesn’t matter if a person has been dead for four days or four million years, death is death and life is life and Jesus is the author of life and is going to resurrect unto life or death all who ever lived on this earth when the time comes. Choose life. Death stinks. No pun intended. DThrash
