Possessing Holy Spirit Power
The bible teaches us in John 1:1 that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” It also tells us, “All things were created by the Word, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” In other words, The Word of God created all things except the Godhead consisting of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Then in John 1:14, John tells us, “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” My question is, “If the Word created all things except the Godhead, and the Word took on a fleshly body named Jesus and walked among men, “Why did it take Jesus thirty years before He began performing miracles?”
The first recorded miracle Jesus performed took place after He had been baptized by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit in the form of dove came and sat upon Him. Could Jesus have performed miracles before this time? I don’t think so. I think if He could have performed miracles before this time, He would have raised Joseph, the husband of His mother from the dead when he passed away. I don’t think Jesus had the power to raise the dead and cast out devils and heal the sick until after the Holy Spirit came upon Him. It’s the Holy Spirit of God who is the source of power. It is the Holy Spirit that gives the Word power to create, to perform miracles, to give life to the dead. This does not mean that Jesus wasn’t full of the Word; He was the Word, and He spent a lot of time with the Father seeking the Father’s will for His life and the life of mankind.
The disciples of Jesus were also more or less powerless until the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came into the upper room in the form of fire and sat upon them. Before that time they were fearful; after that day, they were fearless. The Word of God had come alive when spoken out of their mouths and thousands were drawn to their meetings and were converted. I think it is time for the church who represents God on the earth today to seek God to fill us with this wonderful power, this life saving, healing, delivering power to flow out from us the way it did Jesus and His disciples after they were filled with God’s Holy Spirit.
I know most everyone in the church will tell you they are Holy Spirit-filled; but if that was true, where is the power, where are the miracles, where is the fire, and where are the converts? These things are not in operation in the church because there is no power in the church. The devil knows it. That’s why he isn’t afraid of the church and has taken up residence in most of them. Truthfully right now there isn’t much difference between the church and the world; both are fear-filled, sick, broke and frustrated because the power isn’t there to do anything about their problems. And that isn’t likely to change until we earnestly seek God and ask Him to endue us with Holy Spirit Power from on high. If this were to happen on December 25th, what a great Christ-mas present that would be for God’s church and the world we live in. Merry Christmas to all. DThrash
