Aggressive Sinners – Passive Christians

Paul writes to the Roman Christians in Romans 16 and verse 17, “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.”

God tells us in another place, “Come out from among them and be ye separate, says the Lord.”
He is telling us to separate ourselves from those who please the god of their belly because we have nothing in common with them. And if we would do that for Him, then He would be our God forever.

Jesus said in Luke 16:8 “So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.

The Apostle Paul tells us the god of the unbeliever is their belly or flesh, and everything they pursue is to gratify their fleshly desires. And Jesus tells us, the unbeliever is more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light. He is clearly telling us in the parable from which this statement is taken that the sinner will do whatever he has to do and say whatever he has to say to achieve his purpose.

Paul said they use smooth words and flattering speech to deceive, or to get their way. He also said they cause division, or in other words their aim is to separate you from your church body or cause it to split into factions as well as remove anything of value you possess to weaken you or to break you down so they can add you to their victims list. I want to tell you, Satan has thousands of ways to separate us from our Godly heritage and blessings and he will use them all if that is what it takes to achieve his end.

I like to use this analogy when speaking of the ways Satan has to separate the Christian from our God given blessings, “For every working man earning a living, there is a person sitting in an office somewhere trying to figure out how to separate him from his hard earned money.” Politicians, advertising and entertainment are three biggies who rake in billions of dollars each year. The politician tells us they need more tax dollars for this, that or the other, therefore we need to pay more in taxes, the advertisers and entertainment companies tell us the product before our eyes is just what we need to solve our problems or give us that much deserved rest break from the hard work we do. Not to mention banks, and doctors, and lawyers, and con-artist, and thieves, and credit card companies, insurance companies, bars and clubs, and beggars and users, and the list goes on and on. Each of these people groups want a portion of our God given blessings, but not one of them on my list can provide the relief people need for their weary souls. Only God can provide the things His Children need to live a fulfilled and satisfied life.

Have you noticed, Christians are more passive in their pursuit of Christianity than sinners are in their pursuit of satisfying their flesh? Why are we so passive about our beliefs when our God has promised us if we pursue Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves, we will not have to worry about provision, protection or being cared for and loved. These are the things the sinner seeks to provide security for them. The more they have the more secure they feel. They do not care to what length they have to go to achieve that end. They do not care how many people they hurt or rob and destroy the lives of, including their spouses and children. They will climb over, step on, and destroy anyone who gets in their way while trying to reach the top of the worldly success ladder. They do not understand their life is a house of cards that will come crashing down around them one day and of which cannot stand the test of fire, and no matter how much mammon they accumulate in this life, it will not leave earth with them when they die and someone else will enjoy the fruits of their labor.

As silly as it sounds, the sinner is more aggressive in their pursuit of folly than the Christian is in their pursuit of heaven. The Christians seeks to become invisible and blend in with their surroundings. We want to be Christian, but we don’t want anyone to know we’re a Christian. We wish to blend in because we do not understand a person is either pursing God or they are trying to satisfy the god of their flesh. We cannot do both at the same time. If we are trying to blend in with the crowd, it is because we are ashamed. And Jesus said in Mark 8:38, “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes with the holy angels in his Father’s glory” Also every Christian is suppose to know that real life isn’t about the collections of things and how much stuff we have to prove our worth; real life is about relationships and helping people who cannot help themselves find their way into the kingdom of God. The purpose of Christianity and the reason God provides for His children is so that we might spend as much time as possible bringing His lost sheep back home and into the kingdom of God where they will be looked after and cared for by the Master Himself.
